Zululand Rhino Orphanage

The Zululand Rhino Orphanage was born out of necessity after the regional rhino orphanage was attached by poachers in 2017. After the attack, the orhphanage understandably closed due to security concerns so there was an immediate need to find a home for the existing orphans and place where future orphans could be cared for. The Zululand Rhino Orphanage is currently the only dedicated rhino orphanage in the province - a province where the white rhino was saved from extinction and still remains one of the most important strongholds for rhino conservation in Africa.

Poaching for rhino horn has been on the rise in KwaZulu Natal in 2022, in part due to the fact that it is quite simply one of the last places where a large and dense populations of rhinos still remains. The poaching epidemic means that there is sadly still a great need for the orphanages services.
